The 2021 Palm Oil Roadmap
To achieve IFFCO’s 2021 goals for palm oil, IFFCO sets the following key theme with established milestones and action plan under each theme. IFFCO is confident this will not only guide progress towards 2021 commitment, but will also allow it to establish the right partnership to create scalable impacts. Moving forward, IFFCO will report progress against these key themes and milestones under the Sustainability Dashboard. The key themes and milestones are formulated as below
Traceability
IFFCO’s milestone is to achieve full traceability to mill by mid-2019 and traceability to plantation by 2021.
Collaboration is fundamental to success in achieving a more sustainable supply chain especially where IFFCO Group does not own or operate oil palm plantations and mills, thus 100% of the oil bought and processed come from third party mills, aggregators or refiners. IFFCO’s action plan will consist of :
- Establishing IFFCO’s global footprint and baseline traceability scores for palm oil.
- Working on traceability to mill by collecting the mills’ name and GPS coordinates.
- Working with suppliers to map the supply base and achieve traceability to plantations.
- Analysing the risks and opportunities of our suppliers and to identify potential environmental, social and economics program for realizing the full potential of palm oil in the draw area. Indicator of risks and opportunities include forest cover, peat, proximity to protected areas, smallholders participation and sustainability certification status.
During 2018 IFFCO has focused its efforts to collect all the mill names and respective GPS coordinates of the 3rd party Mills that supply to IFFCO Tier 1 Refineries (Refineries that receive CPO). Below link shows this information.

Partnership and Collaboration

Without broader stakeholder action, joining hand together, there are limits to the progress and scale IFFCO can contribute as one company. By working together through public-private partnership, this will not only support IFFCO in achieving its 2021 goals, increase volume of RSPO materials processed in its facilities, but also delivering tangible impacts on environmental safeguard, social development and economic prosperity.
IFFCO’s milestone is to create one meaningful partnership and collaboration in 2019 that leads to enhancing production, protection of environment and smallholder inclusion.
Suppliers Excellence
IFFCO’s milestone is to have tools for verification of compliance and as a basis to create joint action plan to address the supplier gaps towards excellence.
This entails action plan to map gaps of direct suppliers according to the volumes they provide, execute the risks-based approach in the main sourcing area, and identify potential improvement, program and support needed for suppliers to comply with IFFCO’s policy and realize the full potential of palm oil. IFFCO calls for involvement of all palm oil supply chain participants to create a joint program in bringing supplier excellence.

Creating Impact

IFFCO’s milestone is to promote and communicate on best practices by direct suppliers as part of the transformation of palm oil industry. This will include communicating on HCS, HCV and peat areas that are conserved; biodiversity that are maintained and enriched; enhancement of productivities; and best management practices of smallholders.
IFFCO also measures its own operation against key sustainability performance indicator and contribution to specific elements of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which IFFCO will define and report the progress publicly.
